(EN) A method for expanding a dynamic range of a light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system is provided. The method comprises transmitting, using a light source of the LiDAR system, a sequence of pulse signals consisting of two or more increasingly stronger pulse signals. The method further comprises receiving, using a light detector of the LiDAR system, one or more returned pulse signals corresponding to the transmitted sequence of pulse signals. The one or more returned pulse signals are above the noise level of the light detector. The method further comprises selecting a returned pulse signal within the dynamic range of the light detector, identifying a transmitted pulse signal of the transmitted sequence that corresponds to the selected returned pulse signal, and calculating a distance based on the selected returned signal and the identified transmitted signal.
(FR) L’invention concerne un procédé d’extension d’une plage dynamique d’un système de détection de lumière et de télémétrie (LiDAR). Le procédé comprend l’émission, à l’aide d’une source de lumière du système LiDAR, d’une séquence de signaux d’impulsion consistant en au moins deux signaux d’impulsion de plus en plus forts. Le procédé comprend également la réception, à l’aide d’un détecteur de lumière du système LiDAR, d’un ou plusieurs signaux d’impulsion renvoyés correspondant à la séquence de signaux d’impulsion émise. Lesdits un ou plusieurs signaux d’impulsion renvoyés se situent au-dessus du niveau de bruit du détecteur de lumière. Le procédé comprend également la sélection d’un signal d’impulsion renvoyé qui se trouve dans la plage dynamique du détecteur de lumière, l’identification d’un signal d’impulsion émis qui se trouve dans la séquence émise et qui correspond au signal d’impulsion renvoyé sélectionné, et le calcul d’une distance à l’aide du signal renvoyé sélectionné et du signal émis identifié.
